“I thought, 'Why not take a chance?'”

By Amanda H., 29, O'Fallon, Mo.
Amanda and Rob Amanda and Rob

I was living an extremely small town of 600 people in the middle of Illinois and was a single mom to boot. I knew that I wasn't going to find anyone there, and I didn't go to bars. I thought, "Why not take a chance? The worst thing that could happen is that I could meet a few new friends."

I placed a profile on Yahoo! Personals knowing that I wasn't going to meet anyone new in such a small town. Rob saw my profile, sent me an IM, and our relationship began!

We talked online for months before we met. I only saw a picture of him 30 minutes before he arrived at my door. It didn't matter, though. I was already hooked!

He proclaimed his love for me

When we met in person, it only made him more attractive to me! This giant of a man had an even bigger heart. He and my daughter got along famously. He proclaimed his love for me before we had even kissed!

He was truly the man of my dreams! That was back in August 2003. On Oct. 6, 2004, Rob took me to Lambeau Field, home of our beloved Green Bay Packers, and proposed to me beneath the statue of Vince Lombardi! It was a truly magical moment. We were married on May 21, 2005.

To say that I am blessed would be an understatement. Rob is my true soul mate, my love, and my best friend! He is the father my daughter never had and the love I was waiting for all my life. A moment without him would be a moment too long!

God has many ways of bringing people together. He just chose a couple of computer screens and some typed words for us. I am so thankful!

Success tips from Amanda

  • My best advice is to truly be yourself. A lot of times people find it easier to make themselves look more attractive by overstating their income or by understating their weight! You never truly get to know the other person on the other side of the computer screen if you do that. Truly, there is someone out there for everyone! You will never find that person by pretending you are someone you really are not!
  • Talk to people and really give them a chance! My fiancé had the silliest screen name ever, and I refused to talk to him for a few weeks because of it! Thank goodness I finally broke down and said, "OK, I will talk to this guy with the dumb screen name and give him a chance!" Had I not, I would have missed out on the love of my life!
  • First date: My future husband is 6 feet 5 inches tall and 300 pounds. We went out to eat of course! LOL!
