Toni and Marty
During August 2002, I met a wonderful man named Marty through Yahoo! Personals. We started out as friends and quickly became amazed by how much we had in common. We were both parents of young boys (three for him and one for me). I was hoping to forge a friendship with someone who understood the demands of parenthood and how schedules quite often have to be built around children's needs.
Our friendship quickly turned to love, but unforeseen circumstances split us up for almost a year.
Then, in the summer of 2003, we found each other again and have never looked back! We married on Sept. 17, 2004.
Marty is my best friend, my lover, my husband, and my biggest supporter. We frequently discuss how lucky we are to have found each other. Marty is my soul mate, and my marriage reaches beyond my wildest dreams. Our relationship is the envy of many, and we are truly blessed.
Internet love can and does work. I will always support Yahoo! Personals and have personally seen it form loving relationships like mine. One of my good friends also met her husband this way, and they will celebrate their first happy year of marriage next month.
I think that so many people have a stigma against meeting someone of quality online, but Marty and I are both professionals (well, now I'm enjoying being a full-time mom to four boys) and are very "normal" folks.
Funny thing is, you know what he wrote to me the first time? "Hi." That's it! Something about the way he looked in his photo (dashing in a suit) prompted a very tentative response. The first time he called me, I intentionally let it go to voicemail, just in case his voice was high and pitchy or something - which would ruin my "vision" of the real him. Voicemail saved him and he sounded like a disc jockey, and well...the rest is history.
Woo-Hoo!
