Dawn and Mark
"I remember looking around Yahoo! Personals after graduating from college and found that you could search the database of people. So, off I went, plugging in my criteria ... single white male, age 21 - 25, no smoking, drinking okay, no children, college-educated, in the greater Philadelphia area.
"I hit the button and up popped over 25 guys. I was amazed. I couldn't believe how many people there were. A few days later, I was still intrigued, so I gave it a shot. I wrote two people and called it a night.
"The next day I checked my email and found that one of the two guys had written back. It was Mark! Over time I realized that I would never have met him any other way. We were opposites in many ways and might never have crossed paths if it weren't for Yahoo! Personals. It's like in 'Jerry Maguire' - he completes me! There is no other way to describe it."
"During our second phone call we decided to meet. There was a mini-golf course we were both familiar with and it seemed like a lighthearted, public place for a first date. As I was getting ready, I remember my mom going out to her car and pulling out her car phone. She said, 'Here, take this ... you never know what might happen.' She was clearly nervous about my date. Me, I didn't think twice! I knew there was nothing to worry about.
"He pulled into the parking lot right behind me and off we went. I remember him telling me later that he thought I had a sexy voice from our phone calls but when he saw me he was even more happy that the girl behind the voice was just as attractive - both inside and out!"
"Fast forward almost five years from that first date. Mark and I had always talked about one day getting married, having a dog, and raising a family. He proposed on May 17, 2002, with a dog crate, water bowl, a stuffed dog, and the promise of a German Shepherd so we could finally begin our life together. I looked up from reading the card that was sitting in the water bowl expecting to see him holding a puppy and he was on one knee holding a beautiful ring! A double surprise!
"We got our little girl on July 4th and proudly named her Yahoo! after the way in which we first met. We will be married on May 31, 2003, and will be taking our dream vacation to Australia for three weeks in June."
